NEXT TO YOU

Annie look alike

Mrs. Bonino…she is still here. Fat cat, brat cat, my favourite muse and friend. It is not really that we have not been speaking. We have. I have not been writing about our talks because she asked me not to.

She said “Cats don’t talk”…this is not good for your rep baby.. Makes you look a little loose in the brain box if you know what I mean.”

Her advice always cuts to the proverbial point – and I do mean “cuts”.

But today as she was rolling on the floor in her vast flesh and fur she gazed up at me and said, “take this down.”

And so as I ran around looking for a sharp pencil or a not dried out pen and some scrap of paper with space on it, she began to speak.

“Annie,” I said. “SLOW down…I don’t want to miss anything.”

And she said, “You will though, as always, because you are so busy trying to read and write the world that you don’t get the world under your feet.”

“But you said, write it down…and…”

“But look what you are doing,” she said. LOOK at yourself and then listen to me.”

So I stopped and listened. This is what I remember. I may have missed things of course because I did not write it down.

1. Take a chance with your dreams ~ because I want to get next to you.

2. Don’t be afraid of time passing ~ because I want to get next to you.

3. Don’t waste time and do what you are able to do ~ because I want to get next to you.

4. Feed me Friskies which is my favorite food and then feed me more ~ because I want to get next to you.

5. Stroke my fur…I love that ~ because I want to get next to you.

6. And give me all your sweet, sweet loving today, tomorrow and all our days ~ because I am waiting ~ to get next to you.

Thank you Mrs. B.

CIRCLE FOUND

Black bird

A circle caught my

Thoughts today

Placed me

And my place was found

Once again

Restored my faith

History and next are one

So moving on is moving through

It seems I caught and passed myself

Just in time to start again

It does not matter to me how

The new beginning came

Or how it found me in this place

And gave me peace

And showed me grace

Around and back we seem to dance

And birth ourselves another chance

One by one

We share this too

Always old

Always new

WAITING TIME

MotherShiptonMoth

You’ll be alright here on your own
The question jerked my not so fast
But there was never time to wait
And think about the what to do

Nodding was the only choice
And sadness lifted all again
My skirts of hidden wondering
Folding in their careful pleats

Alright is what I always am
Except when morning darkness seeps
Just before the scraping dawn
Is this a test of loyalty

I wonder once again…
Or maybe just a test of fate
Where drifting days
Have learned to stay
Alone and waiting on the edge
And balancing my wasting love
With staying always true to faith

Behind you is a line I see
Drawn in nightmare shades of gray

And so I ask you please to come
For you, for us and yes for me
I do not know what else to do
And so my days are balancing

My morning dark
My waiting time

ON THE EDGE

words

I started words and almost stopped

But as I wrote I felt my heart

Begin to push their edges…

They lay stuck and waiting

Stopped and bent

The edge is where I left them

And now I cannot find that edge

Promised once and then passed on

Not a false or hidden way

To chase the pulse of wanting more

I still remember how you felt and sounded

In my words

Brushed lightly with a density never really heard

I start and stop and start again

To find the edge of what is true

And now I cannot even feel

The push and pull

Of what I see

A stinging glimpse of almost real

Distorted edge of all these words

My heart is pushing still
